Joint investigation leads to 45-month sentence

Jamie Aguilar was sentenced to prison after falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen and fraudulently receiving more than $247,000 in government benefits.

According to prosecutors, Aguilar received Social Security benefits since May 2006 and Medicaid benefits since March 2012. Aguilar was not qualified to participate in either program because he is a citizen of Mexico. Aguilar pleaded guilty to one count of Theft of Public Money.

The scheme was discovered following a joint investigation by the Texas Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General, U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and the Office of Inspector General – Social Security Administration, leading to his arrest and confinement in federal custody since April 2019. Following his plea, Aguilar was sentenced to 45 months in federal prison and ordered to repay more than $247,000 in restitution.
