OIG recovers $135 million in third quarter

The Office of Inspector General published its third quarterly report for fiscal year 2021. The report includes detailed performance metrics, highlights of provider investigations and settlements, an overview of fraud prevention efforts through outreach and education, and an exploration of the move to tie provider health care payments to the quality of care provided.

The report includes the results of the OIG's resumption of some outside compliance activities, including on-site visits to nursing homes and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) vendors. The work is done following all current COVID-19 requirements and recommendations to ensure the safety of both our staff and those whom we visit.

From March through May 2021, the OIG recovered $134,965,414 on behalf of Texas taxpayers. In addition, $89,748,248 was identified for potential future recoveries, and $31,301,432 was achieved in cost avoidance by deterring potentially questionable spending before it could occur.
