OIG recovers nearly $162 million in third quarter

The OIG published its third quarterly report for fiscal year 2022. The report contains important agency metrics, case highlights and information for OIG stakeholders.

The report shows that nearly $162 million was recovered, almost $220 million was identified for potential future recoveries and another $43 million in cost avoidance was saved by preventing potentially questionable spending.

The report goes into detail about case and agency highlights, including how the OIG Fraud Detection Operation team used algorithms to identify durable medical equipment providers whose behavior identified them as statistical outliers among their peers. It also features the results of the Audit division’s recent peer review.

The OIG in Focus explains the important role that Special Investigative Units play in helping the OIG reduce fraud, waste and abuse in programs or services covered by Texas Medicaid.
