Fraud Prevention for Personal Care Attendants
Personal care attendants work hard to help people who are sick or disabled live in their homes. However, attendants and agencies who bill Medicaid without following the contracted rules, whether accidentally or intentionally, may face a variety of consequences.
The Texas Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) produced a video highlighting attendants’ proper use of the electronic verification system (EVV) and other relevant rules.
The OIG investigates suspected EVV and other violations involving attendants. If program violations are discovered, the OIG may impose penalties, require reimbursement of misappropriated funds, and disallow future employment with Medicaid clients.
The video is available English and with Spanish subtitles. Additional digital resources for attendants are also available. Educational letters in English and Spanish provide further information to help attendants prevent fraud, waste and abuse while delivering care; guidance for providers is available, as well.
