OIG audit finds overpayment to DME provider

An OIG audit has found that a durable medical equipment provider submitted unsupported and unauthorized claims, resulting in overpayments.

The audit found that Longhorn Health Solutions, Inc. of Austin, submitted and reimbursed claims with service dates more than 30 days after the beneficiaries’ date of death. In addition, there were exceptions in which Title XIX forms were missing, expired, did not support the procedure codes billed, were missing the date last seen by physician, or were signed by the physician more than 12 months after last seeing the beneficiary.

Based on the issues identified in the audit, the OIG determined that Longhorn should return $96,921.60 to the state. You can read the full audit report here.
