OIG gives back this holiday season

In September, OIG staff in Austin held a breakfast taco sale benefiting Meals on Wheels.

Throughout the fall, the OIG held numerous events across the regions to raise funds for the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) and give back to their communities. The annual SECC campaign raises money for local charities and is a team-building experience across the OIG. This year, many of the offices joined forces with HHS, Access and Eligibility Services, and the Department of State Health Services housed in their buildings. Among the many events that took place were food sales, silent auctions, jeans days, a Halloween costume contest and a penny drive.

Through these events, the teams demonstrated their generosity by raising nearly $7,000 for area charities. The organizations receiving funds are: Meals on Wheels Central Texas; SafeHaven of North Texas; St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation; Pets for Patriots, Inc.; Caritas of Austin; Dream a Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship; Family Eldercare; National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; Austin Pets Alive!;Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation; NAMI Central Texas; Down Home Ranch; Rio Grande Valley Food Bank of South Texas; Texas Baptist Children’s Home; CASA of Travis County; Texas CASA, Inc.; Mobile Loaves and Fishes; and Central Texas Food Bank.

OIG staff from Pharr helped serve 7,000 meals during the 29th annual HEB Feast of Sharing in McAllen.
