OIG Hotline provides 33,000 Texans with a path to report fraud

During fiscal year 2023, the OIG Fraud Hotline received 33,034 contacts with fraud, waste or abuse allegations. Of these contacts, 7,888 resulted in referrals for further investigation. Of the referrals, 5,346 involved benefit recipients; 1,869 involved retailers; 501 involved Medicaid providers; 164 involved Health and Human Services employees, and eight involved State Supported Living Centers or State Hospitals.

The OIG Fraud Hotline helps the public report suspicious behavior involving a healthcare provider or client abusing Medicaid or other health and human services benefits. When contacting the hotline, users will be asked basic questions to help OIG customer service representatives determine if allegations need to be referred to a preliminary investigation. Callers can remain anonymous if they choose.

Based on the preliminary investigation findings, those cases will ultimately be closed, concluded with a recommendation for education, referred to another agency or entity, or referred for a full-scale investigation.

If you suspect fraud, waste or abuse related to an HHS program, contact the OIG Fraud Hotline at 800-436-6184 or visit ReportTexasFraud.com.
