OIG Hotline provides path to report fraud

During the first quarter of fiscal year 2024, the OIG Fraud Hotline received 9,111 contacts with fraud, waste or abuse allegations. Of these contacts, 1,477 resulted in referrals for further investigation, including 1,210 involving benefit recipients; 115 involving Medicaid providers; 109 involving Electronic Benefits Transfer retailers; 41 involving Texas Health and Human Services employees or contractors and two involving State Supported Living Centers or State Hospitals.

The OIG Fraud Hotline helps the public report suspicious behavior involving a health care provider or client abusing Medicaid or other health and human services benefits. When contacting the hotline, users will be asked basic questions to help OIG customer service representatives determine if allegations need to be referred to a preliminary investigation. Callers can remain anonymous if they choose.

Based on the preliminary investigation findings, those cases will ultimately be closed, concluded with a recommendation for education, referred to another agency or entity, or referred for a full-scale investigation.

If you suspect fraud, waste or abuse related to an HHS program, contact the OIG Fraud Hotline at 800-436-6184 or visit ReportTexasFraud.com.
