OIG inspection finds $1 million in unrecovered state funds

The OIG conducted an inspection to determine if Texas Medicaid Healthcare Partnership - Third Party Liability has effective processes to recover identifiable funds from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

Texas statute requires businesses, government agencies and other entities to report unclaimed funds and abandoned property to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts established the Unclaimed Property Program to administer these funds, valued at $5.2 billion.

The inspection of the unclaimed property program identified Texas Health and Human Services funds not previously recovered totaling $1,004,119. In order to effectively recover future funds, the OIG made recommendations that HHS plans to implement. Read the full report.
