OIG recovers $97 million in second quarter of fiscal year 2020

The Office of Inspector General published its second quarterly report for fiscal year 2020.

In the second quarter, the OIG recovered $97 million. In addition, $47.3 million was identified for potential future recoveries, and another $29.7 million was achieved in cost avoidance. The cost avoidance amount includes funds that were not spent or used more efficiently. The report details the office’s efforts this past quarter in detecting, preventing, and deterring fraud, waste and abuse in the expenditure of funds in Texas health and human services programs. The Quarterly Report includes OIG’s performance metrics, identified trends seen in OIG investigations, an overview of audit and inspections reports produced, as well as other work done by the OIG.
