OIG reports $174 million in third-quarter recoveries

The Office of Inspector General published its third quarterly report for fiscal year 2023, with performance metrics, case summaries and agency highlights. The report shows OIG team members recovered more than $174 million and identified more than $254 million in potential future recoveries. Additionally, the OIG saved Texas taxpayers more than $36 million through cost-avoidance measures.

The OIG Quarterly Report also details recently settled cases, allowing readers to see specific examples of how the agency detects, prevents and deters fraud, waste and abuse in Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) programs. As the OIG pursues our mission of protecting Medicaid program integrity, another key component of our success is our ability to educate providers. This quarter’s OIG In Focus offers a guide to providers who discover Medicaid billing or reimbursement errors and highlights the benefits of self-reporting those errors to the OIG.

Current and previous quarterly reports are available here. The OIG will publish the next quarterly report in September.
